We had a wonderful Snorkel Trip to Looe Key with Capt Brian and Capt Allison. There were 7 of us –myself, my four teenage daughters and their 2 friends. Captain Brian and Captain Allison handled everything. I felt very safe with them watching over us in the water. They handled all the gear and it was such an easy day for me as the mom. We saw an array of sea life on the reef. We saw a sea turtle, a barracuda, a shark, and a plethora of beautiful tropical fish. After we got our fill of snorkeling, they took us over to Picnic Island to spend some time on the sandbar. We lounged in the hammock over the water, and we had a swing on the swing which was an amazing experience. I highly and without reservation absolutely recommend Captain Brian and Captain Allison. They are wonderful people and made a day very special for us. A++ highly recommend. The only downside was that our day had to end!!!

We originally booked the Looe Key reef snorkel, but it was too windy. We went to the mangrove islands in the bay side instead to find a slack tide sheltered from the wind. We snorkeled all along the mangroves and got to see many kinds of fish, barracuda and even a couple of sharks. The kids absolutely loved it and spent every minute in the water. Capt Brian was great. He is extremely knowledgeable and worked with one kid to stay close to the boat and snorkel from a noodle. He gave us lots of interesting facts about the Keys and has even written a guide book to the Lower Keys called The Road to Key West. Check out that book too for great info. It's a great value for a private snorkel charter. I would highly recommend booking with Keys Boat Tours.

My family and I went out with Captain Brian to snorkel at Looe Key and we had the most incredible time. It was a 4 hour excursion and there were 5 of us in the group. Every minute was filled with immense excitement and joy. Captain Brian himself is one of the coolest people we’ve ever met. He was so laid back, kind, and knowledgeable. The views at Looe Key were literally jaw dropping. It felt like we were inside of a big aquarium tank with the diversity of fish, corals, and colors we saw! We were lucky enough to see a nurse shark, a juvenile bull shark, hundreds of fish, a moray eel, a sting ray, conchs, etc.. It is a very happy and healthy coral reef and I still can’t believe I got to experience it first hand. I know there are other companies you could choose from to go to Looe Key, but none of them compare to Captain Brian. He even took the time to fog proof every pair of goggles so that we could have the best visibility the whole time. If you’re looking for amazing vibes, an experience you’ll talk about for the rest of your life, and a captain who’s whole goal is to ensure you have the most fantastic time, then you’ve got to book with Captain Brian.

Similar to our [7 Day Adventure Vacation](https://keysboattours.com/adventure-vacation/) for $3,500, you only pay for your time on the water with the 3 night stay. The private and clean guest quarters is free. This is a long weekend retreat, or an affordable 3 night stay and play is for an individual, couple, or two people. The selection of outings is optional but can include, a hands-on boat lesson one day, fish the backcountry the next, snorkel the reef or a mangrove island, and a 2 hour bridge or eco tour before your noon departure. Your room also includes a separate private bathroom, sitting area, private kitchen, and use of bicycles and paddle boards. We also gift you our Lower Keys guidebook. All you need is transportation. Three nights, three outings, and free time too, all for just $1,900 plus gratuity. TIA

- *Please let us know about your swimming ability / you must know how to swim in order to snorkel. We can provide snorkel vests and swimming noodles. We will need all shoe sizes for fins (US or EU). Snorkelers must wear fins due to changing tide currents.*
- *If you snorkel or swim, you must be able to climb up a 4-step ladder to get back into the boat. Otherwise, we advise that you do not go in.*
- *If prone to seasickness, we recommend that you take Dramamine (or other) as directed.*
- *We want you to drink plenty of water, have something to eat, and use sunscreen liberally*
- *It is our goal to be a highlight of your visit. If such is the case, thanks very much for your gratuity. 20% is customary but give what you feel is right.*

###  ITINERARY 

Take our Adventure Vacation while you learn to boat and even learn to guide if you like. We offer a one week stay and play – 6 nights, 5 days on the water, and lots of free time too. This offer is limited to two people.

**Day 1:** Arrive and get settled in. Go out to a local restaurant and see some music. Awake in a comfortable and clean air conditioned travel trailer. It is WiFi ready with an Alexa too. You will have a totally separate private bathroom. You also have a private kitchen, a screened in sitting area, and an outdoor patio. Quiet time is 10pm.

There are some great restaurants and local music venue options. And, Key West is just 25 miles and 45 min away. We start around 10am and you are freed up after 2pm. You can mix it up too, even skip a day on the water if you like.

The boat outings alone normally cost $3500. The room would cost you an additional $1500, but we only charge you for the boat outings. We appreciate your generous gratuity. You can stay shorter or longer too. And, even mix up your outings if you want. We’re flexible. It’s the Keys!

###  THINGS TO BRING ALONG 

Sunscreen (reef safe), bathing suit, towel, rash guard shirt, long sleeve sun shirt, hat, neck gaiter, sunglasses, wind breaker, bandana, camera, personal water bottle and snacks / lunch.

###  NOTES 

- ***A signed Release Waiver is required prior to boarding.***
- ***We accept Cash, Credit Card, Venmo, or Zelle as payment. Payment is due upon arrival.** Credit card payment is subject to 7.5 % sales tax and a 2.6% service charge fee.*
- *We will ask for a $1000 to be paid via credit card, Venmo / Zelle deposit to reserve the dates of your adventure.*
- *Health: if you have any cold, flu or other worrisome symptoms, we ask that you please skip the outing. And please inform us of any medical conditions that you might have: diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, etc. We respect your privacy, but we need to know.*
- *Please let us know about your swimming ability / you must know how to swim in order to snorkel. We can provide snorkel vests and swimming noodles. We will need all shoe sizes for fins (US or EU). Snorkelers must wear fins due to changing tide currents.*
- *If you snorkel or swim, you must be able to climb up a 4-step ladder to get back into the boat. Otherwise, we advise that you do not go in.*
- *If prone to seasickness, we recommend that you take Dramamine (or other) as directed.*
- *We want you to drink plenty of water, have something to eat, and use sunscreen liberally*
- *It is our goal to be a highlight of your visit. If such is the case, thanks very much for your gratuity. 20% is customary but give what you feel is right.*
- ***Cancellations: We offer a full refund of deposit up to **5 days** before arrival. Cancellations within 5 days forfeit the deposit.***

**Keys Boat Tours** is a family-friendly recreational boat tour operation in the Lower Florida Keys. We offer boat tours and lessons: Eco, snorkel, sandbar, stand up paddle board tours and fishing charters. Motor boat lessons, navigation lessons and fishing lessons. Keys Boat Tours is located at Big Pine Key RV, 33000 Overseas Highway, Big Pine Key, FL 33043.

**Keys Boat Tours** offers individuals, couples, and families alike an opportunity to “smooth it” not “rough it” or get seasick. We operate on the side of caution, checking first: tides, wind and weather. We want your experience with us to be a happy memory, so fair weather only. We try to keep it comfortable, and avoid choppy waters. The winter months are generally a little windy and not the flat pristine water of summertime.

###  CAPTAIN BRIAN

Captain Brian Branigan is USCG certified: master, 50 ton captain, with motor, steam, sail and tow endorsements for near coastal waters. Captain Brian started sailing in and around the Florida Keys as an assistant instructor with Outward Bound in the 1980’s. The trips were a experience of a lifetime (for many) including Captain Brian. Captain Brian went on to work for Outward Bound for three years; summers in Maine, and winters in the FL Keys. Nearly 30 years later, Captain Brian has returned to the Keys to start his own tour guide business, Keys Boat Tours. Keys Boat Tours was established in 2015.

Captain Allison Branigan is a United States Coast Guard (USCG) licensed Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV). Captain Allison got her license a couple years after forming Keys Boat Tours with Brian. Captain Allison operates a 22' Sea Chaser bay boat. She follows Captain Brian in her boat whenever we host groups larger than six passengers. Allison also captains the Mangrove Paddle Tour, Bridge and Eco Tours and some Snorkel Tours to Looe Key and Newfound Harbor. When Allison is not doing charters for Keys Boat Tours, she captains for Seacamp (the marine science camp for kids on Big Pine Key).

Great day on the water! We moved to BPK and wanted a day on the water with an experienced Captain to show us around. Capt. Brian was great. Friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. Beautiful 2 hours on the water! Had dolphins play with the boat and saw some cool sights. He even took us by our house on a canal! Will use Capt. Brian again when my son comes down to show him the area so he knows where to go with his boat to be safe. Thanks Capt.! We will see you again soon!

This was our second trip with Keys Boat Tours - first time with Captain Allison (5 stars) and this time with Captain Brian (also 5 stars). Both captains are great! This time around, Brian shared loads of info about the sights/animals/ecosystems as we travelled out to the reef which was cool. We ended up having amazing visibility but high winds and stayed on the patch reefs for safety reasons. We saw hundreds of fish of every color under the sun (Barracuda, a Lionfish and so many huge Parrotfish were some of our faves). The boat was clean, the gear was great and the trip was awesome! Myself and my two daughters snorkeled for about an hour and then wanted to cruise on the boat so Brian took us past Little Palm Island and to Picnic Island. He was very accommodating and only wanted us to have a good time. Highly recommend! Thanks KBT!

This was a fantastic snorkel experience. It was just us with Captain B. He took us to a location before the crowds came and away from the other boats that were already there. We saw lots of beautiful fish and a huge spiny lobster. The corals were beautiful. We had 100% freedom to enjoy our snorkel. We felt like we were alone on the reef. So worth it to go private.

My wife and I took 4 hour private boating lessons with Captain Brian. He is a great teacher and was very patient with us. He showed us how to get up on plane quickly and comfortably, turning at speed, some basic navigation and lots of docking. Docking was the most important thing I wanted to learn and I was very pleased that we had lots of practice at 2 different marinas. And I don't think there is a more beautiful place than the Florida Keys to go boating. Captain Brian was absolutely fabulous, it was like we were out boating with a friend. We are looking forward to the next time we can go out with him for more lessons.

Captain Brian gave a fantastic lesson in operating a boat, with experience borne of the decades of boating down in the Keys. Lessons in Keys history were interspersed between very practical and applicable lessons of how to safely handle the boat. He was a very patient and knowledgeable instructor, able to aptly gauge our confidence levels as he guided us through challenge after challenge as we performed tasks to operate a boat safely while enjoying the day. He is truly the embodiment of an "old salt" in the best sense of the term. Well worth the price and the four hours we spent out there left me feeling much more confident in what I could do on a boat. Highly recommend if you're a first time boat owner or new to the Keys, we enjoyed the experience.

Captain Brian was very knowledgeable about the local ecosystem. The day started off too windy to venture out to the reef (ocean side), so we started in the backcountry (gulf side). Saw lots of local marine life including a huge turtle, sponges, and ray. We snorkeled along the mangroves seeing grouper, snapper, barracudas, and lots of other small fish. Got to snorkel thru 10,000 or so minnows that were swimming the same line as us! We were careful to not disturb them. As the wind calmed down late morning Captain Brian headed us out towards Looe Key coral reef. Small swells made for a fun and exciting boat ride, which was expertly navigated by our Captain! We stopped partway out as at least a dozen dolphins were playing in the water. Watched them jump and play alongside the boat!! The coral reef was amazing to see so much colorful fish and another turtle!! The favorite was the Rainbow Parrotfish! We finished the tour coming back along islands only accessible by boat.

Captain Brian is a very nice person and is very polite and professional. He tries really hard to give you the ultimate experience but sometimes the fish win. We caught several sharks a red grouper and some lady fish. It was a great experience and would go out on his boat again. We still had a great time and were very satisfied with the experience. I would highly recommend Captain Brian to anybody. Unfortunately you can’t control Mother Nature the current kept shifting and we had to move allot to get it back. As luck would have it we found strong current right as it was time to come in. Thanks Captain Brian for a great day on the water.

We had a wonderful Snorkel Trip to Looe Key with Capt Brian and Capt Allison. There were 7 of us –myself, my four teenage daughters and their 2 friends. Captain Brian and Captain Allison handled everything. I felt very safe with them watching over us in the water. They handled all the gear and it was such an easy day for me as the mom. We saw an array of sea life on the reef. We saw a sea turtle, a barracuda, a shark, and a plethora of beautiful tropical fish. After we got our fill of snorkeling, they took us over to Picnic Island to spend some time on the sandbar. We lounged in the hammock over the water, and we had a swing on the swing which was an amazing experience. I highly and without reservation absolutely recommend Captain Brian and Captain Allison. They are wonderful people and made a day very special for us. A++ highly recommend. The only downside was that our day had to end!!!

We originally booked the Looe Key reef snorkel, but it was too windy. We went to the mangrove islands in the bay side instead to find a slack tide sheltered from the wind. We snorkeled all along the mangroves and got to see many kinds of fish, barracuda and even a couple of sharks. The kids absolutely loved it and spent every minute in the water. Capt Brian was great. He is extremely knowledgeable and worked with one kid to stay close to the boat and snorkel from a noodle. He gave us lots of interesting facts about the Keys and has even written a guide book to the Lower Keys called The Road to Key West. Check out that book too for great info. It's a great value for a private snorkel charter. I would highly recommend booking with Keys Boat Tours.

My family and I went out with Captain Brian to snorkel at Looe Key and we had the most incredible time. It was a 4 hour excursion and there were 5 of us in the group. Every minute was filled with immense excitement and joy. Captain Brian himself is one of the coolest people we’ve ever met. He was so laid back, kind, and knowledgeable. The views at Looe Key were literally jaw dropping. It felt like we were inside of a big aquarium tank with the diversity of fish, corals, and colors we saw! We were lucky enough to see a nurse shark, a juvenile bull shark, hundreds of fish, a moray eel, a sting ray, conchs, etc.. It is a very happy and healthy coral reef and I still can’t believe I got to experience it first hand. I know there are other companies you could choose from to go to Looe Key, but none of them compare to Captain Brian. He even took the time to fog proof every pair of goggles so that we could have the best visibility the whole time. If you’re looking for amazing vibes, an experience you’ll talk about for the rest of your life, and a captain who’s whole goal is to ensure you have the most fantastic time, then you’ve got to book with Captain Brian.

###  ITINERARY 

Design your own tour for your special day on the water. Whether it is a memorial, proposal, anniversary, birthday, small gathering, or any other, we want to be a part of your special Keys experience, and hopefully–a highlight. We can accommodate up to six people on our 23′ motor boat, or up to ten people on 2 boats.

#### MEMORIALS

Most of the memorials we do take place at the reef or in the back country off the Content Keys. It is often based on the wishes of the departed to their family, or where they spent much of their time, and loved - and told their family as much. I am always amazed by the strength of those who are sending a loved one off. They are more often celebrating a life, rather than grieving a loss. It is both, of course, but it is always beautiful, and inspiring. Captain and Minister Brian will discuss with the family the type of send off they wish to have. It can be a simple goodbye, or one with readings and the like. You might be content with placing your loved one where they once loved to spend time. You might wish to place s/he in a salt urn or more. The after event is often one of celebration - where the family enjoys a bit of time in the beautiful FL Keys. The memorial is priced according to the extent with which you wish to spend; 2 hr - 6 hr., salt urn, size of charter party, photos, number of boats, requests, etc. The price ranges from $500 to $2500+, but still very affordable compared to the costs of send-offs these days. We hope to offer comfort here too.

#### WEDDINGS

Congratulations. It is my honor to officiate your wedding - if you choose me. Down here in the Keys, wedding celebrations run the gamut; from, Do You love her, Do you love him, I now pronounce your husband and wife. We are gathered here together in this FL Keys temple of holy matrimony. Let me tell you a story about the couple I am about to wed… It can be simple and small on a boat or an island, or larger, even extravagant, under a tent, with live music, and catering. So it is difficult to put a number on our wedding fee except to say that, it could be as little as $375 and as much as $3500+. But Captain / Minister Brian promises to make it a day to remember. Of course with all weddings, party count, island, on-shore rentals, live music, catering, after party - all dictates the fee. But, no matter, our goal is to deliver a day to remember for all time - and then some.

###  ITINERARY 

This is the ultimate Eco Tour. Our motor / paddle option is 2-1/2 hours (up to 3 paddlers or more if you want to double up on a board with your kid). We will take a short motorboat ride out back for a mangrove cave crawl. Find your inner monkey and swing from mangrove limb to limb as we discover the inner reaches of No Name Key. The crawl is approx. 1/4 miles and then it opens up to a beautiful secluded shallow salt pond.

Say that you’ve never paddleboarded? No problem, you will be a pro in minutes. You don’t have to stand, but many folks surprise themselves and do.

Not crazy about the idea of swinging through mangroves? No problem. We can head out to some nearby islands and paddle around the shallows looking for bonnethead and nurse sharks, sea turtles, and rays, and then maybe take a dip to cool off. Your captain will fill you in on Gulf verses Florida Straits eco facts, and briefly discuss; algae, seagrass, mangrove islands, coral, sponges, birdlife, and marine life.

###  ITINERARY 

The backcountry of the FL Keys is a very special place to explore. Mangrove islands dot the skinny water of the backcountry (Gulf side of the Florida Keys). We’ll cruise to the Content Keys, walk the flats, paddle board, snorkel, see birdlife. We'll explore some mangrove islands along the way, see the birdlife, see a dolphin or maybe a turtle. Have a picnic lunch on the water.

This is a 4 hour tour. We usually depart at 10AM and return by 2PM. The boat ride out is about 40 minutes, and we will make some stops along the way. Add basic fishing + $100. *An extra hour is recommended if you would like to fish or lobster.* Add an hour + $75.

###  ITINERARY 

Snorkel the pristine waters of the Florida Keys. All of our tours are: fair weather, in calm conditions, and friendly marine life. Looe Key is a groove and spur underwater sanctuary. Wend your way back and forth coral heads and sandy crevices to reveal barracuda, rays, parrotfish, angelfish and blue tang to name a few. Looe Key also has several residential goliath grouper, 200 to 600 pound fish that are as passive as they are impressive. Looe Key promises to be an experience of a lifetime.

Looe Key Marine Sanctuary is part of the Great Florida Reef Tract, the only coral reef in the continental USA, and the third largest barrier reef system after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and the Mesoamerican Reef that touches coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Coral reefs are home to 25% of the worlds fish species. While corals may look like rocks or plants, each coral is actually a colony of thousands of tiny polyps. What looks like a rock is the coral's exoskeleton.

This is a 3 hour tour. We usually depart at 10AM and return by 1PM. The boat ride out is 20-30 minutes. There is plenty of time for a long snorkel session, or time to take a break and get back in at another area. Add an hour +$75.

###  ITINERARY 

#### PATCH REEF SNORKEL

The two patch reef zones at Newfound Harbor Key Sanctuary Preservation is a good alternative to Looe Key when the conditions are not as favorable. This half-mile square inshore patch reef is just off Little Palm Island Resort and within the Coupon Bight Aquatic Preserve. This snorkel tour is two hours as opposed to three, so more affordable. You will see a good variety of tropical fish, perhaps smaller than out at the reef / Looe Key but still impressive. The fish that you might encounter at the patch reef include: hogfish, grouper, parrotfish, grunt, angelfish, damselfish, wrasses, snappers, barracuda, and more. The coral here is not colorful per se, but people still enjoy it.

The depth of the patch reef is approximately 9 feet rather than the 7′ to 30′ range at the reef. This tour is great experience, and for many, the best snorkel experience you might ever have. Add an hour and we can head over to Picnic Island for a swim, sandbar or paddle board session.

#### MANGROVE SNORKEL

If the weather and wind conditions are not agreeable for the patch reef snorkel, a mangrove snorkel in the Backcountry is a great option B. This is very special ecosystem and well worth seeing. We will go to the lee side of an mangrove island to explore. While you will not see coral, mangroves serve as nurseries to many fish. Their root systems protect fish from larger predators. Expect to see baby barracuda, nurse sharks, mangrove snappers and maybe a lobster or two nestled in the mangrove roots or ledges below. Also mangroves are roosts for birds - pelicans, ibises, herons, and frigate birds.

###  THINGS TO BRING ALONG 

Snorkel gear if you have it. Sunscreen (reef safe), bathing suit, towel, rash guard shirt, long sleeve sun shirt, hat, neck gaiter, sunglasses, wind breaker, bandana, camera, personal water bottle and snacks / lunch.

###  NOTES 

- ***A signed Release Waiver is required prior to boarding.***
- ***We accept Cash, Credit Card, Venmo, or Zelle as payment. Payment is due the day of the tour.** Credit card payment is subject to 7.5 % sales tax and a 2.6% service charge fee.*
- *We may ask for a credit card number or a $50 Venmo / Zelle deposit to reserve the date of the tour.*
- *Health: if you have any cold, flu or other worrisome symptoms, we ask that you please skip the outing. And please inform us of any medical conditions that you might have: diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, etc. We respect your privacy, but we need to know.*
- *Please let us know about your swimming ability / you must know how to swim in order to snorkel. We can provide snorkel vests and swimming noodles. We will need all shoe sizes for fins (US or EU). Snorkelers must wear fins due to changing tide currents.*
- *If you snorkel or swim, you must be able to climb up a 4-step ladder to get back into the boat. Otherwise, we advise that you do not go in.*
- *If prone to seasickness, we recommend that you take Dramamine (or other) as directed.*
- *We want you to drink plenty of water, have something to eat, and use sunscreen liberally*
- *It is our goal to be a highlight of your visit. If such is the case, thanks very much for your gratuity. 20% is customary but give what you feel right.*
- ***We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and the Captain reserves the right to cancel any trip due to weather and/or any other circumstances*.**

###  CHARTER POLICIES 

**Life Jackets:** All passengers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard–approved PFD when instructed by the Captain. Non-compliance may result in removal from the vessel.

**Captain's Authority:** The Captain's decisions on vessel operations, navigation, safety, and weather are final. All participants must follow the Captain's instructions at all times.

**Alcohol & Substances:** Moderate alcohol consumption is permitted at the Captain's discretion. Participants appearing intoxicated may be denied boarding or removed from the vessel.

**Snorkeling and Swimming:** All participants must be able to swim and be able to climb up a 4-step ladder to get back into the boat. Snorkelers must wear fins if the current is strong.

 **Fishing Licenses:** Keys Boat Tours LLC holds valid U.S. Coast Guard charter and fishing licenses. Participants are covered under the vessel's charter fishing license while on board.

**Catch Policy:** All fishing is subject to FWC regulations and federal guidelines. Bag limits, size requirements, and seasonal restrictions will be strictly followed.

**No Guarantee of Catch:** Fishing success depends on weather, season, and fish behavior. No guarantee is made regarding the quantity or species of fish caught.

**Photography & Media:** Keys Boat Tours LLC may photograph or record participants for marketing use. Participation constitutes consent unless otherwise requested in writing prior to the charter.

**Children:** Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian, who assumes full responsibility for the minor. Children under 6 must wear a USCG-approved Type I, II or III personal flotation device while onboard the vessel while the vessel is underway.

**Payment:** Payment is due the day of the tour. Cash, credit card, Venmo, or Zelle are accepted forms of payment. A payment made by credit card is subject to 7.5 % sales tax and a 2.6% service charge fee.

**Deposit:** We may require a credit card number or a $50 Venmo / Zelle deposit to reserve the date of the tour. We will ask you for this when/if another party is interested in the same date to secure your spot.

**Cancellation Policy:** Cancellations must comply with booking terms provided at reservation. Keys Boat Tours has a have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Weather cancellations are at the sole discretion of the Captain.

**Charter Terms, Conditions & Liability Notice**
By booking and participating in a charter with Keys Boat Tours LLC, guests acknowledge that boating, offshore fishing, and related activities involve inherent risks, including changing weather conditions, vessel movement, and the use of fishing equipment. All participants voluntarily assume full responsibility for their safety and any risks associated with the experience. Our vessels are operated by a licensed U.S. Coast Guard captains, and all charters comply with applicable federal and Florida regulations, including fishing licensing requirements. Guests agree to follow all instructions provided by the captain and crew, whose authority regarding safety, navigation, and trip conditions is final. By participating, guests accept that no guarantees are made regarding catch and release any claims of liability to the fullest extent permitted by law.

###  ASSUMPTION OF RISK 

Participation in fishing charters, snorkeling excursions, offshore boating, and all related maritime activities offered by Keys Boat Tours LLC involves inherent risks, hazards, and dangers that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. These risks include, but are not limited to:

• Sudden changes in weather, sea conditions, high winds, heavy swells, and other unpredictable natural forces;
• Capsizing, grounding, collision, or mechanical failure of the vessel;
• Injury from fishing equipment including hooks, rods, lines, gaffs, knives, and other tackle;
• Seasickness, dehydration, heat exhaustion, sunburn, and other environmental health conditions;
• Injury during water entry or exit, while snorkeling, or while swimming near the vessel;
• Marine wildlife encounters including but not limited to sharks, rays, jellyfish, and barracuda;
• Slipping, falling, or sustaining injury on the deck of the vessel;
• Risks associated with areas remote from emergency medical services.

As a participant you voluntarily and knowingly assume all such risks, both known and unknown, and accept full responsibility for any injury, illness,
death, or property damage that may result from my participation in these activities. You will be asked to sign a waiver before the charter for you and minors in your party.

We start by going over what's in your tackle box. What kind of fish you want to target? and what kind of tackle and bait do you need. We show you basic knots, tying leader to braid or mono. We look at the Top Spot Chart and show you how to read it.

This lesson comes with our compendium book, [BOAT FISH LIVE](http://boatfishlive.net) written by Capt. Brian Branigan. It includes the motor boat lesson, a sailing overview, and fishing guide to the Keys.

The lesson takes place at 33000 Overseas Highway on Big Pine Key on our 23' center console Bulls Bay motorboat. We'll also offer to come to you and use your boat or rental boat ($100 per hour travel time, e.g., Key Largo +$200).

###  ITINERARY 

Navigating the Fl keys can be difficult with all the skinny water around. Captain Brian will start with a chart and show you your boating playground.

The lesson takes place at 33000 Overseas Highway on Big Pine Key on our 23' center console Bulls Bay motorboat. We'll also offer to come to you and use your boat or rental boat ($100 per hour travel time, e.g., Key Largo +$200). We introduce you to your boating playground, and can even put tracks on “your” GPS. This 4 hour “private” lesson will start your boating life like nothing else.

###  ITINERARY 

You are thinking about buying a motor boat, or you recently bought one, but you don’t have the experience to comfortably head out on the water by yourself. Or, you might instead wish to rent a boat without having to hire a captain.

With Keys Boat Tours, based out of Big Pine Key Resort (MM33), you learn how to: a) dock a boat in different situations, b) drop and retrieve an anchor, c) understand weather, wind, and tides, and d) drive a boat with confidence. You also have the option to learn how to properly trailer a boat (1 hour). You put the boat in and take it out. We start by taking a look at a chart. We review some physical aspects to the boating safety course and some other practical advice. We review local navigation, so that you truly understand markers and don’t run aground. This is a “must take” course for: a) anyone who is not 100% confident in operating a boat, b) anyone who is buying/purchased a boat, and c) anyone who wants to boat safely and properly. Hands-on training is required for all. Classroom lessons are great, but this is the true test.

This first of its kind, official hands-on boating course is; 4 hours, up to 2 individuals. The Lesson comes with our compendium book, [BOAT FISH LIVE](http://boatfishlive.net) written by Capt. Brian Branigan. It includes the motor boat lesson, a sailing overview, and fishing guide to the Keys.

The lesson takes place at 33000 Overseas Highway on Big Pine Key on our 23' center console Bulls Bay motorboat. We'll also offer to come to you and use your boat or rental boat ($100 per hour travel time, e.g., Key Largo +$200). We introduce you to your boat (and boating playground), and can even put tracks on “your” GPS. This 4 hour “private” lesson will start your boating life like nothing else.

We also offer: Fishing 101, and local / backcountry navigation 101 lessons. You will gain lots of confidence from what you learn too – guaranteed. Makes a great gift!

###  ITINERARY 

This is magic hour, when the seas flatten out, the sun is not too strong, and everything has a brilliant glow. This is the same as our eco tour, but during sunset. The wind dictates Gulf or ocean side. You can combine it with a dip. Or, you might instead combine it with a sip. You are free to bring whatever you like food and beverage wise. And, to play your own music. Enjoy the moment.

We depart the marina two hours prior to sunset, or if you prefer, 3 hours prior. You’re in the Keys!

This 1 hour loop starts at the Spanish Harbor Bridge and goes up to the Bahia Honda Bridge and the Seven Mile Bridge. We’ll cruise up the bay side and back on the ocean side (or vice versa). Discover the history of the bridges and Henry Flagler's Overseas Railroad. Spot marine and bird life. See mangroves and coastal beaches. This is a great way to see the Keys!

###  ITINERARY 

Our offshore fishing trip is a 6 hour session of trolling for mahi and blackfin tuna. It is designed for adults. We head out south beyond the reef and look for the three D’s; debris, da birds, and da weeds. We don’t stop until we see one of these telltale signs. But, we also look for color change, and water busting. If we see a good amount of sargassum aka weeds, we will try pitching a white bucktail or a chunk of ballyhoo around its periphery. This often times reveals and catches mahi. If we get very lucky, a wahoo. Otherwise we troll with a four rod spread. The bite might be 5 miles out or 15. You can add time to the trip at $100 per hour. Limited to four anglers.

###  ITINERARY 

This 2 hour loop around Bahia Honda and out to No Name Key and the backcountry with Captain Brian is a must. See the Gulf and Ocean sides. Skinny water and beautiful beaches. Cruise under bridges and have your photos taken. This is a great way to get on the water – and just may be the best deal in the Keys!

Your captain will share some historical and ecological tidbits along the way. Learn about mangroves. Look for marine life – Bahamian starfish, sponges, turtles, rays, dolphin. Take a dip if you like at a local sandbar or just drift in the Backcountry.

###  ITINERARY 

This fishing trip is a 4 hour outing; just the right amount of time for many. We mainly do backcountry channel fishing. The ultimate goal is to stay in calm waters and have a good time catching fish. We catch bait, and try a few different spots to bend the rod, and more times than not, bring home dinner. We also offer yellowtail fishing on the reef, and snapper and grouper fishing in patch reefs. It is your time in the beautiful Florida Keys. Enjoy it!

Captain Brian Branigan is originally from Queens, New York. He’s come a long way from there to here. His life has been one adventure after the other, and the expedition continues. Born in the late 50’s and a product of the 70’s Brian possessed the embodiment of wanderlust; Jones Beach lifeguard, music venue bartender, and before long, major motion picture technician. Brian was a NY / LA grip turned camera crane specialist, which last for nearly 19 years. Brian also wrote and directed a short film at Universal Studios, Hollywood of which clips played on the 1994 Academy Awards opening segment. While based in NY and in between films, (1986 – 1989) Brian would work as an instructor for the Maine based organization, Outward Bound, sea program. Winter courses were based out of Big Pine Key, FL.

This was not his first introduction to the Keys, but it was his longest at the time, 3 seasons. His last film, Meet the Parents, actually coincided with his meeting his life partner, Allison. Together they ran a very unique (for the time) multimedia lounge bar in Soho, NY. It was called [vOID](https://islanddesign.us/void/), and it specialized in art visuals combined with DJ controlled lounge music, stimulating customers senses, but allowing them to have a conversation too. This four year experience (eight for Allison) came to a close in 2002 when Allison sold the business. They decided to buy a home together in the Hudson Valley of Upstate NY, renovate it, sell it, then another. They opened an art gallery Olivia on Warren in Hudson, NY in 2008, only to meet the great recession head on.

Brian was a photographer too, brianbranigan.com, and Allison, a jewelry designer, [ruthbeattie.com](https://ruthbeattie.com/), and graphic designer. They started Hudson Design. But, they also happened upon a perfect recession proof opportunity that they thought fun – a food truck. It was to be the first modern day food truck of Hudson, NY. That lasted five years, and went on the record as “one of the most difficult ways to make a living – ever.” But, it did buy them their home in the Keys, and Brian used the experience to write his first book, [Food Truck 411](https://foodtruck411book.wordpress.com/). Allison designed the book. The food truck business was a challenge, no doubt, but it did bring Brian (and Allison) back to the Keys, as they thought it a way to continue making a living in the otherwise off-season.

In 2013, Brian and Allison sold the food truck and their Hudson location, but not the business, Tortillaville. That is still available for purchase. So, what to do? Ironically, a few months after their book came out, Outward Bound asked if Brian was interested in helping to write a 50th anniversary coffee table book, and Allison design it. They did as much until the budget crumbled. They continue with Hudson Design and website clients, which led to a sister business, [Island Design](https://islanddesign.us/). But, Brian had logged a lot of sea time too, so he decided to finally get his captain’s license. That led to freelance work as mate and captain on various boats, which then led to his own concept, Keys Boat Tours (2015).

And, that is as they say, where they are at the moment; living in the Keys with two motor boats, a vintage truck, paddle boards and a business or two. Brian offers rides, tours and charters, and specializes in teaching motor boat operation the only hands-on lesson offered in the Keys. Brian’s book, [The Road To Key West](https://theroadtokeywest.com/) is a where locals go guide like no other. His second book [BOAT FISH LIVE](https://boatfishlive.net/) was created as be a compendium to his Hands-on Boating Lesson and Fishing 101 lesson. He is working on a third book, Expedition of a Lifetime; a conversation about life while on a sailing expedition from Big Pine Key to Key West. Brian writes the books and Allison designs and illustrates them. Allison still designs jewelry, and otherwise keeps busy with [Island Design](https://islanddesign.us/) and Keys Boat Tours. She got her captain’s license and has started taking people out. Allison also works as a captain for Seacamp, a marine science camp for kids here on Big Pine Key.

It was September 10, 2017 when Brian and Allison experienced their first direct hit hurricane. Hurricane Irma hit their Big Pine Key neighborhood with such force that after it passed, it resembled nothing short of a war zone with trees toppled, boats pile high, and houses strewn in mud as waters rose 5’+ sinking entire neighborhoods under water. We prepared the best we could but it was not good enough. Our freshly renovated mobile home got flooded out and red tagged by the County. We lost our pick up truck to the flood, and an our box truck transmission went under water eventually requiring a rebuild. Brian and Allison, along with their dogs, Schooner and Dory evacuated the Keys one day before Irma hit. They drove their van to Venice but with the storm still closing in on them they were forced to continue all the way up to Gainesville where they spent a few days with a childhood friend of Brian’s. The return was eerie and very sad, reminiscent of their time living in New York City when 911 happened. Brian returned first, and Allison and the dogs followed in a rental car a week later.

Hundreds and hundreds of appliances would be piled high along US 1 as a convoy of trucks would line up to take it all out of the Keys. The destruction was contained to a 20 mile swath from Cudjoe Key to Marathon with Big Pine being ground zero.

It took some years but Brian and Allison persevered. Though out of work for a good year and deep in debt, they climbed out of that hole to begin anew. Now nearly ten years later, they have a brand new elevated 2 bed, 2 bath home on their property courtesy of Rebuild Florida. Their yard is newly landscaped including a guest travel trailer. They moved their Keys Boat Tours operation from Sunshine Key Resort to Big Pine Key RV campground. They are back in the black. And, their Keys Boat Tours business currently has over 800 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor alone. They are happy to report a complete comeback. Thanks for being part of the journey.

Captain Brian is the hands down number 1 boat instructor in the Keys. I recently took my 14 year old daughter to a there hour hands on boating safety course with Captain Brian in Bahia Honda Key. He was absolutely fabulous and my daughter learned, in depth, how to navigate a boat in all manner of conditions including high winds, shifting tides, through narrow channel, docking the boat in various wind conditions, and chart reading. My daughter was captivated and it was very empowering for her to master these skills. Captain Brian has perfected a teaching skill which engages the kids so they really retain the information and have a great time learning.
